Responsibilities of the City Manager include:

  • Acting as the chief administrative officer and direct supervisor of department heads (e.g., city recorder, city treasurer, public works director, justice court judge, etc.) and being responsible for implementing all policy changes and directives of the mayor and the city council through regularly scheduled staff meetings
  • Being responsible for the day-to-day operation of the city and its services, pursuant to the policies and procedures adopted by the City Council
  • Preparing plans and programs concerning the development, operation, and needs of the city and submitting such plans to the City Council to be approved and developed as policy
  • Setting performance standards and exercises administrative control to ensure the city government is functioning in the most efficient manner
