Elks Lodge Names Robert Drinkhall NSL Citizen of the Year!
Thursday, January 20, 2011 - 08:57 AM

Congratulations to Robert Drinkhall who was recently named North Salt Lake's Citizen of the Year.

Robert was born in Nampa, Idaho as the first of 10 children.  He graduated from High School in 1989, and then while working as a photographer in Texas he met his wife and and they were married in the fall of 1992.  Robert brought his wife back to Idaho in 1994 and started attending college, and they began their family.  Robert started his own photography business and due to his success in that field, his brother approached him to go into business together.  So they bought a home inspection franchise, and when it expanded to Utah, Robert brought his family to North Salt lake in 2005.

Robert has strong leadership skills and a passion for working and being involved with helping anyone that he can.  Robert spearheaded a 2 year project to save the home a senior citizen in his neighborhood, and was then approached to help with other projects in the neighborhood.  He has helped rally neighbors to put on 5 new roofs, paint homes, and to do tree trimming and removal.  Robert has shared his skills and knowledge from his professional life to help anyone in need with their homes.  At home, Robert is just as committed to his family, and when his mother passed away 9 years ago, he "inherited" 3 sisters that were still left at home, and raised them with his 4 girls and 1 son, making 8 children, and then adding his Grandmother to his household 5 years ago until she passed.  Robert is continually seeking out opportunity to serve those in need, and has loved living in North Salt Lake; so much so that he frequently talks of hoping that all of their children will remain in the area after they are married because of this amazing community!

Gang Awareness Event
Monday, March 28, 2011 - 12:29 PM

You are cordially invited to a special gang awareness event. The United Women's Forum, at the request of the
North Salt Lake Police Chief, is sponsoring an informative evening about the growing gang activity in many of our schools.

The event is on Friday, April 1st @7:00 P.M. at the Bountiful City Hall. Curtis Giles, a former gang member, will share his
unique perspective. The North Salt Lake Gang Officer will provide a presentation, followed by a question and answer session.

It is important for parents to know what to look for, what questions to ask, and what to do if they suspect a child or
child's friend is involved in gang activity. Students are also strongly encouraged to attend. It would be very
beneficial for them to hear Curtis Giles' story and learn about the consequences any level of crime would bring to their life.

Statewide Food Drive - September 24, 2011
Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 04:52 AM

The demand for food by the needy has out-stripped supplies at local food pantries and at the Utah Food Bank for most of this year.  This has left these facilities with critically low levels, requiring some food pantries in the state to close.  The Bountiful Food Pantry, which serves South Davis County, has had to cut the amount of food they dispense to each client in order to make their supply last.  Once a year, local churches sponsor a food drive in connection with the Alliance for Unity.  This drive will occur September 24th. For further information, contact Lorna Koci, lornakoci@bountifulfoodpantry.org or 801-299-8464.

Puzzled by the tax law or by which credits and deductions to take

Need assistance with your tax return?

Come to the VITA site at the North Salt Lake City Building any Thursday evening between February 2 and April 12 from 5:00-8:00pm and get your taxes done free of charge by an IRS certified volunteer.  If your family or individual income is $50,000 or less per year, these trained community volunteers can prepare your federal and state taxes free of charge.  If you would rather make an appointment to get your taxes done, call 2-1-1 after January 23rd and they will schedule a time for you.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Information about VITA Program in Davis and Morgan Counties—2010 Tax Season

Internal Revenue Service (IRS) certified volunteers provided free tax services through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)  program for persons with low to moderate incomes (those with annual incomes of $49,000 and below.)  The VITA program is sponsored nationally by the IRS and locally by non-profit organizations such as the Family Connection Center, United Way and Community Action Partnership of Utah.  This past tax season was the third year that Davis County has had its own coalition overseeing the program—an organization comprised of non-profit agency representatives and local business and community leaders.   Income tax preparation was done at 10 Davis County and Morgan County locations this tax season.   The total number of residents served and the total refund figures continue to increase each year since the formation of the coalition.

Plans Underway for this year's Summerfest!
Wednesday, March 02, 2011 - 11:54 AM

The Bountiful Davis Art Center (BDAC) has started work on the 2011 Summerfest International celebration held on the week of July 31 - August 7.  We are looking for volunteers to help coordinate and organize this year's celebration. We need to fill positions as quickly as possible. First and foremost, we are also looking for families who would like to  become host families. This is an opportunity to host two or more dancers or musicians for the week. Also, we are looking for volunteers to help throughout the week. These positions range from a few hours a day to volunteering all week. We welcome all the help. If you would like any additional information on this year's Summerfest, or to become a volunteer for a week, or even a day, contact Bountiful Davis Art Center at 801-292-0367
