North Salt Lake Honors:
Sunday, May 18, 2008 - 11:58 AM
Kent and Chris Kirkham, "Volunteers of the Year"

Betty Tucker, North Salt Lake's "Mother of the Year"

Adam Peterson, North Salt Lake's "Youth of the Year"

The Kirkhams are co-chairs of our NSL Uniting Neighbors program.  They spend countless hours in organizing neighborhood Uniting Neighbors groups and training all of the neighborhood Uniting Neighbors Coordinators.  The second Thursday of each month, you can see the Kirkhams at NSL's Uniting Neighbors meetings.  Thank you, Kent and Chris!

Betty has lived in North Salt Lake 22 years and is the mother of 7 children, 31 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.  Countying Betty and her husband, this makes a total of 100 people in her posterity.  That in and of itself is an accomplishments.  However, Betty and her husband served an LDS mission to the Philippines and have seen grandchildren and great-grandchildren serve LDS missions to such places as Argentina, Germany, Canada and Bulgaria.  A mother's influence is at work in Betty's life and she serves as an example to all of us.When asked what she would like to have accomplished, she said, "I have often said that I've had two goals in life - to have enough time so I could know what it felt like to be bored, and travel until I was done traveling.  I don't think I'm going to accomplish either one."  Betty, North Salt Lake City honors you as our Mother of the Year.  Keep setting an example for us.

Adam Peterson is the North Salt Lake Youth Citizen of the year because of his willingness to serve wherever he is needed.  He is currently serving on the North Salt Lake Youth Council as the city manager, and works hard to fulfill his responsibilities and help others to fulfill theirs.  Adam is also heading the North Salt Lake Youth Council's "Relay for Life" team this year.

Adam is a senior at Woods Cross High School and is involved in their music program.  He is also taking a heavy load of advanced placement classes, but despite his busy schedule, he is one of the most reliable members the youth council has had over the last few years.  Adam is smart, works hard, and most importantly, he is thoughtful.  He takes time to study and understand an issue before making decisions.  It has been a pleasure to work with him over the last four years.

Adam, we wish you well in your future endeavors and hope that someday you will serve as an elected official.  We need good people to serve.  Adam, we honor you!!
