2023 State of the City

MAYOR'S MESSAGE: 2022 was a good year for the City of North Salt Lake

     Here is a look at some of the significant things that happened last year and why we have a lot of reasons to be optimistic about 2023.  

     The City of North Salt Lake is financially sound and positioned well in the event of an economic downturn.  We refinanced $2 million in water revenue bonds before the Fed’s recent interest rate hikes resulting in $45,000 in annual savings.  

     Funding is now in place and we are excited to begin the construction process of the Foxboro Wetlands Park and the reconstruction of Hatch Park in our City Center.  Our water year is off to a great start with current mountain snowpack, and thanks to our conservation efforts and the completion of a long-range water master plan, we hope to be in a much better watering situation in 2023.

     The City of North Salt Lake grew by approximately 1,000 people with the recent annexation of the Val Verda area, generally located around Adelaide Elementary School. Homes in this area were previously part of unincorporated Davis County, who encouraged this annexation as their ability to provide ongoing urban services to these residents was diminishing. We welcome these new residents and hope they find the transition into our City to be smooth and ultimately positive.

Additional highlights from 2022

     The City completed several water line and road reconstruction projects throughout the City including Eaglewood Loop, 75 East, 125 East and Frontage Road. Upper Eagleridge Drive received a new street overlay, and lower Eaglewood Drive was reconstructed (with upper Eaglewood scheduled for 2023).  We are near completion of the Lacey Way water line project. The water line in this area was extremely antiquated, and residents along this line can attest to frequent breaks and interruption of water service. The water line section on Nancy Way was delayed due to early winter weather but will be done as soon as temperatures allow, together with the complete reconstruction of the street surface on Lacey Way. These projects represent the fourth year of our commitment to improve the conditions of City streets by doubling the road maintenance budget.

    Google Fiber is continuing to install their network in North Salt Lake, and expects to complete the infrastructure and connections in 2023, giving many residents an additional option for high-speed internet access.

    The Eaglewood Golf Course clubhouse and event center has gone through a major renovation and is nearing completion. We are excited about the increased indoor/outdoor areas with a large expanded deck offering panoramic views of the golf course and magnificent evening sunsets. Look for an open house of this beautiful venue in the coming weeks. North Salt Lake residents receive a 20% discount on event center fees and the City encourages residents to consider Eaglewood for your next wedding.  

     We have several volunteer committees in the City.  The newest one is our Health and Wellness Committee, established to address the importance of promoting health, safety and general welfare of our residents. In 2022, the City partnered with Davis County Behavioral Health to hold classes on family/parenting skills as well as daily living skills. The City also received the 2022 Utah Healthy Community Designation in part from the efforts of this committee.

    Ongoing annual civic events include Arbor Day tree planting, the Kite Festival, Easter Egg Dash, Juneteenth Celebration, Liberty Fest events (including the Eaglewood Auto Fest, Liberty Fun Fair and fireworks show), Essay Contest through NSL Reads, Photo Contest, Get to the River Canoe Event, Golden Spoke Bike Ride, Halloween Fun Event and our weekly Monday night Food Trucks and Vendor Fair. We offer a huge thanks to those involved in the planning and executing of these events.

         On a personal note, as Mayor I am very involved with several Davis County and special district boards, and I am encouraged by the great people we have serving throughout Davis County.  That, combined with the tremendous staff of the City of North Salt Lake, bolster my optimism for our future.  We remain committed to what makes our City great, while also navigating new challenges.
