**Cancelled** Youth Mental Health First Aid Class for Adults

Saturday, September 30, 2023

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches adults how to help young people who are developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. In the training, participants will learn how to IDENTIFY, UNDERSTAND, and RESPOND to signs of mental health problems. It is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course teaches 1) the signs and symptoms of mental health problems in young people, 2) a 5-step action plan to help young people when they are experiencing mental health problems in everyday life, 3) how to help in the event of a crisis, including when a young person self harms, overdoses, has panic attacks, or has thoughts of suicide, 4) how to use local resources to help individuals experiencing these challenges.

Studies show individuals trained in the program: increase their knowledge of signs, symptoms, and risk factors of mental health problems; increase their confidence in and likelihood to help an individual in distress; and show reduced social distance to individuals with mental health problems.
