The NSL Police and Public Works Departments would like to remind residents that parking regulations are now based on weather, and not dates. Parking on public streets is not allowed during a snow event (ice, snow, hail, sleet or freezing rain). Parking is also prohibited until plowing is complete from pavement edge to pavement edge. Vehicles may be impounded or subject to penalty if snow plows have to maneuver around a vehicle.
Property owners must remove all snow, ice and hail from sidewalk within twenty-four (24) hours of the end of the storm. It is unlawful to blow, shovel or plow snow from private property onto a public street. Any sidewalk where snow has not been removed may be abated by civil action,
These things happen every year - usually because residents are simply unaware of city ordinances. These laws are in place to allow our snowplow drivers to clear streets as quickly as possible with their limited resources. The police department has the responsibility to enforce these ordinances in order to ensure the safety of our residents using streets and sidewalks.
