NSL Reads

NSL Reads is brought to you by the NSL Parks & Arts Board and has sponsored events such as a book club, summer reading, essay competitions, and an annual fall event with activities, authors, movies, and awards. The 2022 fall event was held October 12, 2022 at City Hall, with guest author and illustrator, Melanie Hawkins!

Bio: Melanie is a children's book author & Illustrator and a local Elementary Art Teacher. She has a passion for sharing joyful messages that address important topics such as inclusion, celebrating differences, resilience, and mental health. She writes books that include empathy, diversity, kindness and finding joy. 

Melanie delighted all of us with personal experiences about her life, background, how she began writing children's books and her learning process. She shared stories about kids who inspired some of her stories and some of the positive feedback from parents, educators, and mental health professionals who have shared the meaningful messages and stories with their children. Melanie has published 17 books that are available at Amazon, Walmart, and other retailers.
