COVID-19 Update - Self-Haul Customers Restricted at Davis County Landfill
Layton –In response to the “Stay Safe, Stay Home” Directive issued Friday, March 27, 2020, by Governor Herbert, and in consultation with the Davis County Health Department, Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District (Wasatch) will temporarily suspend services to self-haul customers at the Davis Landfill in Layton, Utah. Effective Thursday, April 2, 2020, only customers with existing credit accounts will be allowed to enter and use the facility. This restriction will remain in effect through April 13, 2020 unless otherwise updated.
The health of our community, our customers, and our employees is our primary concern. By reducing or eliminating person to person contact during transactions at the landfill and fully supporting the Governor’s efforts we hope to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Davis County Commissioner Bob Stevenson, Chair of the Wasatch Integrated Waste Management Board, said, “Our goal here is to follow the direction from the Governor while limiting as much as possible the negative impact to local businesses.
Wasatch’s Executive Director, Nathan Rich, said, “We felt we could no longer provide services to the 1,200 to 1,500 residential self-haul customers we typically see on a Saturday and fully comply with the new Directive from Governor Herbert. We recognize the inconvenience this represents to our residents and pray that this restriction is short lived. The landfill will remain open to commercial customers (those customers that have existing credit accounts) as long as we can operate safely.”
Wasatch has implemented plans insure it can continue to provide essential services to city and commercial waste haulers in any event. The Landfill Thrift Store is also temporarily closed and will remain so until further notice.
When not restricted by COVID-19, North Salt Lake residents may take items to the Davis Landfill in Layton. The address is: 1997 E 3500 N, Layton, UT 84040
